#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The State Duma adopted a law providing for a rule on the domestic mobile application store creation in Russia at the plenary session. It will be pre-installed on all gadgets.
“It is planned to download applications that will be included in the list of the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media, and budget funds will not be invested in its development”, says the draft law’s explanatory note.
According to the Ministry of Digital Development’s press service, the decision to create a domestic application store was made in May, since ‘Russian citizens need to be provided with habitual Internet services’.
The department held meetings with the Russian largest IT companies’ participation to prepare the domestic application store. A memorandum based on meetings’ results was signed. Its participants will provide mutual expert support, place their applications in a domestic application and provide their own technologies and services for its development.
“The operator’s function is carried out by VK. The main principles of the store’s operation are defined in a memorandum signed by VK, Yandex, Sberbank, Rostelecom, Tinkoff, Avito, Headhunter, Ozon, Wildberries, Gazprom Media and others”, says the department’s website.
VK and other IT companies (with the support of the Ministry of Digital Development) launched a beta version of the Russian application store called RuStore on May 25. It currently has 650 mobile apps that have been downloaded over 500,000 times.
