#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The Russian satellite constellation in the Arctic will increase fivefold in two years, which will increase the predictability of ice conditions along the Northern Sea Route 0by 20 percent.
Sergey Anoprienko, deputy minister of natural resources and ecology of the Russian Federation, spoke about this at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
By 2024, the Northern Sea Route will be served by five satellites. The first Arctica M was launched in 2021, the second, Condor, in May of this year, two more, Arctica M and Obzor, will go into orbit in December, and Condor in 2024.
The new constellation of satellites, together with the Roshydromet (Federal Service for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring) network modernization, will increase the reliability of forecasts for ice conditions from 70 to 90 percent.
