Nornickel has signed an agreement with the leading Russian space monitoring company Sovzond. For two seasons, the experts will study the condition of soils under industrial and infrastructure facilities.
“The autumn season, before the hard frosts, is the period when individual deformations can be traced. Another season is spring-summer, when snow melts and the impact on permafrost can be assessed. On the basis of this information, Sovzond will continue working continuously, accumulating statistics. This space survey will become the main part of our system for monitoring buildings, structures, all infrastructure in real time, will give us early indication of the areas where some displacements are taking place, so that operational teams can perform an additional range of studies: this is mine surveying, and additional temperature studies”, said Sergey Dyachenko, first vice president – operations director of Nornickel.
The company plans to deploy the monitoring system by the end of 2021. Information on objects, buildings and structures will be loaded into a single database. The system will also issue reports on the stability of foundations. Today, there is no such automated system, but there are all the components that will be at the heart of the monitoring center of the Nornickel company.
