#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. In Snezhnogorsk, an artistic mural in two parts with a total area of 150 square meters was presented for the 60th anniversary of the village. The mural transformed the façade of the educational institution on Hantayskaya Embankment, 1a. The project was implemented with the support of the Norilsk Development Agency (NDA) and the city administration.
“The mural, which combines the themes of labor and family, the beauty of the local landscape, and the grandeur of the Ust-Hantayskaya hydroelectric power station, is a worthy decoration for the pearl of our municipality. The drawing was applied to the façade of the preschool building of School No. 24 – the ends face directly onto the Military Glory square near the public center. I am sure that such a gift will delight residents and guests of Snezhnogorsk for many decades”, the head of Norilsk, Dmitry Karasev, congratulated the village residents.
The design process lasted almost three years, including repair work. The artistic solution was suggested by the residents of the village themselves.
“During the design process, we talked to Snezhnogorsk residents, representatives of family dynasties who have been working for generations at one of the northernmost hydroelectric power plants in the world – the Ust-Hantayskaya HPP. They shared personal stories and photographs with us, some even became prototypes for the heroes on the panel. When choosing the sketch, we also took into account the general desire to emphasize the identity of the people of the village, its uniqueness and difficult history on the facade of a socially significant place for Snezhnogorsk residents”, said Victoria Chulanova, project curator, the NDA deputy director for the direction of urban environment development.
The panel is impressive in scale and attracts with a complex plot. It is based on people, workers of the Ust-Hantayskaya HPP and residents of the village, watching the discharge of water. The background depicts views of the HPP and the Hantayskoye reservoir. The project expresses the theme of the beauty of the local nature, the value of labor, the connection of families living in Snezhnogorsk with the city-forming enterprise. The panel author is Moscow monumental artist Pavel Yudin.
“An important artistic task in this project for me was the theme of the Man of Labor. After all, every resident of the village and worker of the hydroelectric power station should feel that this art is about him. There are already monumental works in Snezhnogorsk: a mosaic on the ends at the entrance to the hydroelectric power station and a stained glass window inside the turbine shop. I wanted to create a panel that would become an important and iconic landmark in the center of Snezhnogorsk”, said Pavel Yudin, a master of monumental painting and the author of the Snezhnogorsk art panel.
A decorative frieze along the perimeter of the entire building serves as an addition to the two-part panel. This element repeats the main range of the artwork.
Earlier, Norilsk residents created a Roman mosaic panel of 42 modules. We also reported on three new panels on Komsomolskaya street.
