#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The unique river-sea class vessel Siberian Explorer was built at the shipyard in Saratov on the individual order of the Russian Geographical Society (RGS).
Now it is moving to Krasnoyarsk for sea trials, and its further fate will be connected with the Russian Geographical Society’s expeditions.
The Siberian Explorer is an 18-meter vessel filled with high-quality scientific equipment, navigation and communication systems. There is a desalinator on board and a marine stabilizers so that the crew does not feel the waves. In addition scientists are armed with modern drones which will significantly expand the observation’s possibilities. It took five years to build the ship. It will allow scientists to get away from expensive helicopter flights.
The chairman of the Krasnoyarsk Regional Branch of the Russian Geographical Society Igor Spiridenko said.
It is expected that projects on a comprehensive the Krasnoyarsk area’s Arctic territory and Taimyr’s coast’s survey, the Yenisey and its tributaries and the Kara Sea and the Laptev Sea’s coastline exploration will be implemented with its help.
Earlier, the Russian Geographical Society confirmed that the Vaygach icebreaker sank in 1918 was discovered in the Kara Sea.
