#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. In our country, as the song rightly says, “there is no family where its hero is not remembered”. The media company Severny Gorod is launching a large-scale project Norilsk Fates of Victory, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory in The Great Patriotic War, which every resident of our vast country brought closer.
Each city, village, small settlement has its own history of life during the War and its own price and history of Victory. It consists of millions of destinies of people who day after day during the long war years believed in Victory and went towards it. But at the same time, the history of Victory is the history of today. After all, the northern city, like many other regions of Russia, lives, is built, and develops thanks to the feat of the Soviet people. And the large Norilsk family is the descendants of glorious heroes from various corners of our vast country.
80 years have passed since the victorious May 9, but the years will not diminish the people’s memory. Every Norilsk resident can preserve it: we invite you to share stories of your relatives who served in the Red Army or worked in the rear during the Great Patriotic War. These will be stories not only about specific historical figures – our grandparents, but about the entire fate of Norilsk. After all, these were the people who stood at the origins of the families that built and developed our northern city; families living in the northern city today.
Any Norilsk resident, regardless of age, can take part in the project. To do this, send a story about your front-line soldiers to the chat bot of the Severny Gorod Telegram channel or by e-mail.
The material should include a photo of the front-line soldier (if it has been preserved), a short story about the Victory hero, as well as a short story about the family or an individual Norilsk resident who decided to take part in this large-scale project.
Every day, the Severny Gorod portal will publish stories of our heroes throughout this year – it is rightfully dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the great event. All materials will be collected in a virtual book of memory.
Once a month, we will release a detailed report about the heroes of one of the stories published during this time. Each of these reference points will reflect one of the stages of the War – from its beginning to the Victory. It is important that this project will be retrospective for the entire city: in each of the 12 materials, we will tell you what happened in Norilsk during this or that period of the five-year war. We are familiar with the figures of the material contribution – in tons of metal and tank armor that the workers of the Arctic contributed. But let our contemporaries not forget about the heroic defense of Dikson, about the price at which this Victory was given to everyone. After all, this is a story that cannot be neglected: it is about the people who created the history of the Arctic, and it must be preserved in people’s memory, subsequently passed on to those who will carry it on – our children.
