#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. On Metallurgist’s Day and the day of the 70th anniversary of Norilsk, the townspeople made a gift to themselves by setting a Russian record. People lined up in a chain 3.8 kilometers long on both sides of Leninsky prospect from Gvardeiskaya square to Ordzhonikidze street.
7429 people took part in the Hug the City action. Official representatives of the Russian Book of Records came to Norilsk to register the achievement.
The Krasnoyarsk Territory Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker Dmitry Sviridov shared his impressions on the action:
“This is not just a record in the Russian Book of Records, it is, in fact, our family, comradely, friendly association on our favorite holiday, when we can smile, meet on the street, congratulate each other and wish success to our city and the city-forming enterprise, families, everyone. It is inspiring and uplifting. Much more people came than expected, which indicates that they are in a good mood.”
“It is very symbolic that today, despite the cold weather, the Norilsk people once again rallied, showed their unity and united on the birthday of Norilsk, went to Leninsky prospect and set a real record. More than 7000 Norilsk residents congratulated our city on its 70th anniversary in this way”, noted the city head Dmitry Karasev.
On July 16, another record event took place: the Norilsk dairy plant presented the city with the largest ice cream in Russia weighing 300 kilograms in honor of its 70th anniversary.
