#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. American and German oceanographers have discovered eternal toxic substances floating the Fram strait between the Atlantic and Arctic oceans.
Eternal chemicals are per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS) is a large family of pollutants that almost do not decompose in the natural environment, writes Gazeta.ru.
In this case, substances accumulate in humans and animals’ body and can cause diseases, including oncological ones. Chemicals are used in the production of goods to impart fat- and water-repellent properties.
Analysis of water samples showed levels of at least ten different PFAS, some of them present at depths of more than a kilometer. Every year, about 123 tons of eternal chemicals enter the northern waters from the Atlantic ocean, and about 110 tons move in the opposite direction during the same time.
Previously, Russian scientists developed a floating drone to study the Arctic. We also wrote that previously unknown algae will help monitor the state of the Arctic.
