#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. Now anyone can get an idea of how an Arctic camp on ice is organized, see scientific equipment at work and plunge into the atmosphere of a polar expedition.
According to TASS, scientists have launched a website with a virtual tour to the ice camp of the large-scale international polar expedition MOSAiC to study the Arctic climate.
Scientists from the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute (AARI, St. Petersburg) took part in the expedition.
On the site, you can see the organization of the camp on ice, scientific equipment and plunge into the atmosphere of a polar expedition. The tour can also be taken in virtual reality glasses for full immersion – the platform provides this function.
“Such a virtual tour is more for a wide audience than for scientists. But I think that it is very interesting for students of specialized universities or other interested people to see the ice camp with their own eyes”, said Yegor Shimanchuk, a researcher at the AARI Ice Physics Laboratory.
The expedition lasted about 12 months in 2019–2020. On the board of the icebreaker Polarstern there were scientists from two dozen countries who carried out studies of the physical processes of the Arctic climate system under the program of the international expedition MOSAiC.
The data obtained will help improve models of the polar atmosphere and ocean, as well as improve high-resolution weather forecasts in the Arctic.
Earlier we wrote that the next – less ambitious, but no less interesting – Arctic expedition started from Norilsk.
