#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The idea of creating a virtual museum of the traditional culture of indigenous peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East of the Russian Federation was born in the process of discussing the need to digitalize the linguistic and cultural heritage of the Arctic indigenous peoples. Now the St. Petersburg Pedagogical University and the Yakut North-Eastern Federal University named after M.K. Ammosov are working on it.
The project is designed to solve several problems at once – involving students in scientific and field work and solving the problem of supporting and preserving the culture of the peoples of the North with the involvement of employees of cultural institutions, residents, and schoolchildren locally.
Together with the virtual museum, a portal with three-dimensional models will be created. To fill it, it is planned to visit local history museums, ethnocenters, reindeer herders’ camps, and work with cultural bearers.
In September, expeditions have already taken place on the territory of the Yamalo-Nenets autonomous district and the Republic of Saha (Yakutia) to collect field materials in places where Nenets and Evenks live compactly, with the involvement of specialists from local museums and ethnocenters, cultural experts, folklore works performers, folk art masters, reindeer herding communities’ representatives.
After processing, the received materials will be placed on the pages of the North, Siberia and the Far East peoples’ traditional culture virtual museum. The project results will be presented in December at the Russian State Pedagogical University named after A.I. Herzen in St. Petersburg.
