#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The Arctic Wave festival will last for two days – April 26 and 27. The first day is entirely focused on school teams, and the second is dedicated to all Norilsk residents. The city will be covered by a wave of experiments, hypotheses and new projects. Norilsk residents will live in the same rhythm with it.
The Arctic Wave festival of scientific discoveries is supported by the Nornickel company as part of the World of New Opportunities charity program.
Participants and guests will enjoy a two-day exhibition, a lecture block and a quest on the City of Engineering Solutions. Those who come will find out what is more important: coming up with an idea or being able to implement it? Without an idea, nothing can be created, and without an engineer, the idea will remain only on paper.
For the first time, the final of the IMAKE invention competition will be part of the Arctic Wave festival program. A delegation from Chita will come to Norilsk to participate in the finals of the engineering marathon.
Another innovation is engineering career guidance competitions, in which participants will benefit from the ability to design, saw, drill, solder and glue. IMAKE finalists, students and participants of the In Good Company trade track will unite in mixed teams to create and invent.
On Friday, April 26, special tracks will be organized at the Youth Center for formed school teams. The final of the IMAKE young inventors’ competition, the projects defense and the exhibition of the IMAKE Inventors League participants’ inventions will take place.
The lecture block will allow everyone to get acquainted with eminent experts, including Alexander Hohlov, head of the small spacecraft projects department of the Geoscan company, member of the St. Petersburg organization of the Russian Cosmonautics Federation, astronautics popularizer; Ekaterina Marchuk, host of the Scientific Wives podcast, junior researcher at the Laboratory of Atmosphere-Ocean Interaction at the RAS A. M. Obuhov Institute of Atmospheric Physics. In addition, there will be a meeting with Ilya Gomyranov, biologist, employee of the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology, graduate of the M. V. Lomonosov Moscow State University’s Biology Faculty, author of best-selling books about animals and participant in more than 30 biological expeditions to various regions of Russia and the world; as well as Yury Eponchintsev, manager of the Nornickel Polar Branch’s innovation department.
On Saturday, April 27, the Youth Center will host career guidance competitions: Engineers’ Cup and the championship of mixed teams in solving engineering problems for the city Solved!
A series of interactive engineering shows Scientific Sumo will take place. Norilsk residents can enjoy VR tours of Norilsk, the Anhydrite mine, temples and churches, as well as the unique natural area of the Putorana plateau.
Citizens will study technologies for filming and editing 360° panoramic video with elements of the Norilsk theme, see a cutaway model of the mine production and have the opportunity to become drivers of a loading and delivery machine (LDM). Also, everyone will appreciate the exhibition of products and mini-sculptures Welding Production – Metal Poetry, join drone racing – competitions on drones using a simulator program, and get acquainted with the amazing Russian-made robot Adam and its capabilities in action. It will also be possible to meet with employees of the northernmost fablab in the world, visit the 69th Parallel charity foundation’s site Smelt Plastic and the upcycling club One More Time.
City excursions Guide to the City of Engineering Solutions will be held in a new immersive performance format for Arctic Wave. Such know-how will allow you to look at the city through the prism of engineering solutions, important historical events and projects that help reveal the capabilities of each resident.
