#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The development of the Russian Arctic will take center stage at the International Arctic Forum (IAF) in 2025.
“We envision the IAF as a platform for discussing the development of the Russian Arctic and the economies of its regions, rather than just a venue for tackling global Arctic challenges. A key topic will be the Northern Sea Route, which is our national priority and a strategic transport corridor. We will certainly discuss northern supply operations and strategies for scaling up and strengthening our icebreaker fleet. Additionally, we’ll address the modernization of Arctic cities and how to enhance life in these areas, creating maximum comfort for residents, as well as developing mobile healthcare, telemedicine, and air ambulance services”, said Alexey Chekunkov, minister for the development of the Far East and Arctic, as quoted by TASS.
Another important issue will be the expansion of the satellite grouping.
“Operations in the Arctic greatly depend on satellite technology, as the ice is highly mobile. It’s crucial to forecast the weather, assess ice conditions, and plan routes for each individual vessel and icebreaker”, the minister explained.
The development of Arctic cities will also be a significant topic.
“All efforts to boost the economies of Arctic regions hinge on having people live in the Arctic and attracting new professionals. We need to create the most comfortable conditions possible and offer a range of quality social services”, emphasized Alexey Chekunkov.
Earlier, we reported that the Arctica-M spacecraft is continuously monitoring the Northern Sea Route from space.
