#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The Lomonosov Moscow State University has created a digital model of the Arctic that has no analogues in the world for a unified system for monitoring the nature and use of the region’s resources.
The system processes information from digital elevation models of land, ocean floor, land, sounding data and other information. In terms of the breadth of coverage and degree of detail, the development has no analogues in the world.
“The space-time model of the Arctic is a digital volumetric reflection of the Arctic space above 60 degrees north latitude, including parts of the atmosphere, hydrosphere and lithosphere. It accumulates an array of big data and can be used in the future to solve many of the most important tasks and problems of the Arctic region”, Anatoly Kosikov, an employee of the Geography Faculty of Moscow State University.
The model can increase the efficiency of decision-making in the field of geological surveys, environmental management, and in the future for the analysis and forecast of emergencies and environmental problems in the region.
At the initial stage, the study was supported by a grant from the Russian Foundation for Basic Research and the Russian Geographical Society.
Earlier we wrote that scientists had developed a virtual tour of the camp of the international Arctic expedition, and a ‘forest census’ has begun in two reserves in Taimyr.
