#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The Russian Federal Agency for Nationalities Affairs has decided to change the dates of the Public-and-Private Partnership in the Sphere of Sustainable Development of Indigenous Peoples international forum. It was supposed to take place in Dudinka on March 31 – April 2.
However, the annual reindeer race sports events in the villages will take place according to the agreed schedule. The first competition will be held on April 9 in the village of Nosok. On April 16, races are scheduled in the villages of Tuhard, Syndassko and Novorybnaya. Reindeer herders of Popigay village will compete for prizes on April 23rd.
“The day of the reindeer herder for the tundra people is not just a holiday and an opportunity to win a valuable prize. This annual event also has socially significant tasks. For the nomadic population, this is an opportunity to come to the settlement to solve everyday issues: get veterinary first-aid kits, draw up official documents, undergo a medical examination”, said Andrey Shopin, acting head of Taimyr.
Earlier, we reported that Nornickel allocated money to Taimyr family and tribal communities for the purchase of snowmobiles, outboard motors and airboats. And new communities of indigenous peoples will join the Nornickel program for Taimyr development.
