#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. Mikhail Slipenchuk, president of the Polar Explorers Association, officially launched the Vernissage of Polar Artists, showcasing artwork produced during the expedition.
“I hope this exhibition will become a permanent fixture and continue to grow”, said Russia’s chief polar explorer.
The exhibition was held at a significant venue for polar explorers – the museum of TV host and traveler Yury Senkevich, coinciding with his birthday on March 4.
The expedition also included four painters from the Russian Artists’ Union.
“At the exhibition, we can see the artistic chronicle of the expedition through the works of Dmitry Gusev, Anastasia Sazhina, Evgenia Malina, and Valeria Borisova”, remarked Russian senator Elena Shumilova. “It’s important to note that alongside their participation in the expedition, these polar artists are developing a new direction in their work called Northern Plein-Airs”.
“This time, we plan a genuine painterly expansion into Taimyr and the Murmansk region. We aim to donate some of the paintings to cultural institutions in Taimyr”, said Anastasia Sazhina, a member of the Artists’ Union and a polar instructor.
The scientific and production center Trivesta, a partner in the expedition, introduced guests at the vernissage to upcoming books based on the expedition’s findings, as well as a new book series titled Great Russian Travelers.
“I think the series on travelers could be called the Taimyr Multivolume, since half of the books will focus on the exploration of the shores and interior regions of the Taimyr peninsula from the 17th century to the present day”, explained Mikhail Kuznetsov, head of the Trivesta center.
As a reminder, the Clean Arctic – East – 77 expedition successfully completed all points of its route within a year.
