#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. A photo exhibition highlighting life in the Arctic has opened in Nizhny Novgorod at the Boiling Point of Minin University, with support from the Russian Geographical Society (RGS), reports the online publication Nizhegorodskaya Pravda.
The exhibition features the comprehensive ecological expedition by the RGS called Arctic General Cleanup, which has been taking place in the village of Hatanga for the past two years.
During the expedition, volunteers worked to clear the shores of the northern village of accumulated metal and conducted scientific research in various fields. Over this period, they successfully removed more than 700 tons of waste, resulting not only in a cleaner riverbank but also in valuable scientific insights, remarkable discoveries, and a wealth of photo and video material that has been transformed into a full-fledged exhibition.
All the photographs were taken by participants of the 2024 expedition. They include snapshots of life in Hatanga, stunning landscapes, wildlife, and the results of the cleanup along the banks of the river of the same name. Each piece is accompanied by audio podcasts that share the stories behind the images and provide deeper insights into the harsh northern region and its residents.
Visitors can also explore all the photographs through a virtual tour as part of the Hatanga Heritage project.
