#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The sports and entertainment complex Arena opened the exhibition of works by the winners of the Photodom-2020 annual city photography contest, which brought together both professionals and amateurs. In total, the exposition contains 65 photographs telling about life in Norilsk and significant events in the Arctic.
“This year, 44 photographers with over 430 works submitted applications for participation in the competition. The exhibition turned out to be unique: it presents an independent view on all aspects of the northern city’s life. In the works of photographers, each person will be able to see something of his own: a mine, a house, his emotions in relation to this or that event, the nature where he spends weekends, and much more. We did not separate the works of professionals and amateurs. The viewer himself has the right to judge which photo attracts him more”, Anna Vaschenko, director of the cultural and leisure center named after V. Vysotsky, told the This Is Taimyr correspondent.
This time the organizers of the competition established 12 categories. The works that won in the Travel category where you can see how the Norilsk people spend their holidays are very interesting. For example, Aleksey Solopov visited the attractive snow-covered peak of mount Belukha – the highest peak of the Altai mountains. The amateur photographer conveyed all the beauty and uniqueness of nature through pictures taken on a smartphone.
“I have been fond of photography since childhood and decided to participate in the competition this year. I visit many cities of Russia and through my works I want to show people the wonderful places of our country”, the author shared.
Among the participants of the Photodom-2020 there are those who won several prizes. As an amateur photographer, Evgeny Strenadko decided to submit his work to the Professional Photography category. According to the results of the competition, he took first and third places in four nominations.
“Two years ago I started taking pictures: at first I had a small camera, and I shot what attracted me. Later, when I took part in the School of Local History, I realized that some places in Norilsk can be beautifully presented through photography. I show my work on social networks. And last year my exhibition took place in Talnah. When I submitted my works, I could not imagine that they would find such a response among the jury members and people. In the future, I plan to improve my skills and share interesting photographs with people”, Evgeny said.
The exhibition of the Photodom-2020 winners will be held in the Arena SRC until November 30.
Let us remind you that the Photodom photography contest has been held since 2006. The organizer is the cultural and leisure center after V. Vysotsky with the support of the Nornickel company.
