#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. International Day of the World’s Smallest Indigenous Peoples is one of the northerners’ favorite holidays. In Taimyr, it always takes place on a grand scale.
This year, the holiday from a weekday, August 9, was moved to Saturday, August 12. All actions will begin on the square near the Taimyr ice arena in Dudinka.
“The program includes awarding the workers and anniversaries-fishermen who have made a significant contribution to the social and economic development of the region. National outdoor sports games are expected, as well as a varied cultural program. Exhibition events will be held at the local history museum of Dudinka, the Taimyr House of Folk Art, the City Center of Folk Art and other institutions”, said Elena Sotnikova, the Indigenous Minorities of Taimyr and Agricultural Issues Department head.
In the most passable places of the Taimyr capital, according to tradition, chooms (indigenous people’s homes) will be installed: the national courtyard on the city central square will become a place where everyone can taste national cuisine and buy souvenirs. Many residents come to this holiday from the villages. In Taimyr, more than a third of the population are representatives of indigenous peoples.
Earlier, we told that on 24 June, Dudinka celebrated its 356th birthday.
