On Taimyr haymaking tradition resumed

July 13, 2021

Members of the Husky-Tyal community from Volochanka harvest grass for musk oxen.

#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The World Organization of Mowers in Switzerland decided to include the members of the Husky-Tyal community, which is located in the Taimyr village of Volochanka, in the organization.

According to experts from the World Mowers Organization Volochanka residents this year are carrying out the northernmost haymaking in the world, harvesting grass for the musk oxen who live at the Tucker camp.

Denis Terebihin, a resident of Volochanka, initiated the hay harvesting practice revival. He posted on social networks a photo of the first blown stack in more than thirty years in the central Taimyr. The picture shows that the mowing is carried out both with an authentic oblique-lithium and a petrol mower.

Earlier we talked about how musk oxen spend their first summer in Taimyr.
