#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The Novosibirsk-based film company Abradox is set to produce two films in 2025: a feature film and a documentary, both centered around life in Dikson, the northernmost settlement in Russia. These films will explore the unique experiences and challenges of living in the Far North.
According to TASS, Abradox plans to premiere the short feature film and documentary titled I will Wait for You in October 2025. Film producer Veronika Berdina announced that filming is scheduled to commence this spring:
“In the second half of April, we will embark on an expedition, first to Norilsk and then to Dikson. Both stories celebrate the deep love people have for their northern homeland”.
The short film will be a narrative piece, with some interior scenes shot in Novosibirsk. The casting process will involve students from local theater universities. The story will revolve around a young man and woman grappling with the decision to remain in their native village or pursue their studies elsewhere.
“The central theme of the film is that home is not defined by where you were born, but by where you find love. This story is about love, the North, and how a boy who always dreamed of leaving his village comes to realize that Dikson has truly become his home”, said director Margarita Filimonova.
The documentary will focus on the lives of residents in northern settlements, using Dikson as a case study. Director Nadezhda Getto emphasizes that the film will highlight universal human values:
“This will be a film about warmth and love in the northernmost part of our country. It will explore what makes this Far North so special, drawing in those who have left and those who have never been there. It’s about the vastness of open spaces and the depth of people’s hearts in a small town”.
In a related note, This Is Taimyr recently reported on the animation studio at the Rodina cinema complex launching a sand painting course.
