#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The Northern Sea Route is proposed to be named after the polar explorer, State Duma deputy, Hero of the Soviet Union and Hero of Russia Arthur Chilingarov.
The LDPR leader Leonid Slutsky sent a corresponding proposal to Vladimir Putin, Rossiyskaya Gazeta reports.
Naming the Northern Sea Route after Arthur Chilingarov will be a tribute to the great Arctic explorer and will also help educate future discoverers “ready to conquer the unknown, dream of making an incredible scientific breakthrough, and not living life through a phone screen”.
The appeal notes that Arthur Chilingarov made an invaluable contribution to the study of the polar regions of the Earth, as well as to the development and consolidation of the legal status of the Northern Sea Route.
At various times, Arthur Chilingarov was the first vice-president of the Russian Geographical Society, president of the State Polar Academy, president of the Association of Polar Explorers, and was elected to the State Duma of the 7th and 8th convocations.
Earlier, This Is Taimyr wrote about the intention to name a lake in Russia after Chilingarov.
