#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. At the Komsomolsky mine in Norilsk, an industrial photography photo exhibition PROmotion has opened – more than 60 shots of the city-forming company production and its people who create a special magic of obtaining metal will be able to be seen by employees and guests of Nornickel enterprises.
The photos authors are well-known photographers from Norilsk and Dudinka, who have been participating in blog and photo tours at the company’s enterprises for many years.
“These shots convey both the authors’ skill and the production scale, the features of work in the North. For 2.5 years of blog tours, photographers have gathered a serious pictures collection. We offered them to select the best ones and show them to the company’s employees and citizens”, says Anastasia Pavlova, the exhibition organizer, a representative of the public relations department of the Nornickel Polar Division.
The northerners’ works were evaluated by professional experts. Among them are industrial photographer, member of the jury of the Young Photographers of Russia contest and member of the Union of Photographers of Russia Viktor Borovskih, former Norilsk resident, co-organizer of the international photo contest Polar Perspective Alexander Haritonov, as well as the creator of the first professional blog in Russia dedicated to industry, Igor Yagubkov .
“Industrial photography is gaining popularity in Norilsk today. And it is all the more pleasant to see the high level of local photographers, who are able to convey not only a limited and at the same time complex color palette on factory backgrounds and objects close-ups, but also show the production scale and the work specifics”, – says Alexander Haritonov.
Victor Borovskih noted that working in industrial premises where there is no possibility to use special equipment is a real challenge for a photographer. But at the exhibition you can see impressive effects, where sparks can turn into beautiful lines, and metal flows like water.
The authors paid special attention to people.
“A production portrait can show a strong character, the energy of a working person, make the viewer rise above the everyday component and see the meaning of any business. Even the most inconspicuous profession is part of the general, which creates, in a global sense, the optimistic energy and power of our country”, emphasizes Viktor Borovskih.
Igor Yagubkov is sure that it is not easy to make industrial photos that will impress the audience, any such shooting requires careful preparation:
“The photographer needs to choose the right shooting angle and lens, while understanding what task he is solving. After all, for someone the main object may be a plant, where he documents the various stages of production. And for someone it is more interesting to focus on people. In any case, industrial sites blog tours are a great way to make yourself known”.
The photo exhibition organizers are the public relations department of Nornickel Polar Division and Severny Gorod media company.
