#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The president of Russia has confirmed plans for the Northern Latitudinal Railway construction. The launch of the project will allow, among other things, to unload the BAM and the Trans-Siberian Railway. This is fundamentally important given the reorientation of the main export resources to the east.
“Our plans include further modernization of the railways eastern direction, the Trans-Siberian and BAM.
This will significantly increase the volume of passenger and cargo flows, thereby increasing business activity and social mobility, opening up broad opportunities for trade, launching new projects and, most importantly, successfully solving ambitious, nationwide tasks for the development of Siberia and the Far East, without removing them from the agenda and our projects such as the accelerated modernization of the Murmansk transport hub, the deepening and widening of the fairway of the most important river arteries, and the future construction of the Northern Latitudinal Railway”, Vladimir Putin noted.
The total cost of the project, according to the Kommersant newspaper, is 292.3 billion rubles.
Recall that the Northern Sea Route (NSR) becomes the second global transport corridor. The volume of traffic on it by 2030 is going to exceed 200 million tons.
Earlier, nuclear Atomflot icebreakers – Arctica, Sibir, Ural, Yamal, 50 Years of Victory, Taimyr and Vaigach – celebrated the New Year in the waters of the Northern Sea Route, and the volume of traffic along NSR exceeded forecasts.
