#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The meeting was attended by the world’s leading producers and processors of platinum group metals (PGM) – members of the IPA: Heraeus, Anglo American Platinum, BASF, Impala Platinum, Johnson Matthey, Northam Platinum, Royal Bafokeng Platinum, Sibanye Stillwater, Tanaka, Umicore.
The key topic of discussion was the fight against organized crime at all stages of the platinum group metals supply chain – from mining to the final recipient. The South African colleagues spoke about the problems faced by PGM producers in the region, as well as the established mechanisms of cooperation between private companies and law enforcement agencies and the role of the South African Minerals Council in this interaction.
The participants were interested in the topic of illegal traffic in automotive catalysts containing platinum group metals. Representatives of the Federal Customs Service (FCS) spoke about cases of illegal import and export of spent catalysts under the guise of other goods.
FCS representatives also talked about measures to prevent illegal trade in products based on risk assessment and effective interaction with interested government agencies and private companies:
“We plan to expand the range of issues discussed, because security includes many aspects, and Nornickel has extensive experience in creating an integrated security system for technological and production processes, including its cyber component”.
