#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The Nornickel company became one of the participants of RSC-Holding LLC, a member of the Russian Stainless Company (RSC) holding, which is implementing a project for the production of flat rolled stainless steel. Participation in the project will allow Nornickel to significantly increase nickel sales on the domestic market, as well as integrate into the production of advanced processing products in the steel and alloys sector.
Stainless steel is used in all areas of human activity, from heavy engineering to electronics and precision mechanics. It has found its greatest application in construction and architecture, the production of home equipment, the food industry, household appliances, the chemical and petrochemical industries, mechanical engineering, the pipe industry, the electric power industry, and so on.
A production complex for the production of high-quality hot-rolled and cold-rolled flat products from stainless steel grades and corrosion-resistant, heat-resistant alloys is being built in the city of Volzhsky, Volgograd region.
The capacity of the new plant is up to 500 thousand tons of finished products per year. The cold rolling shop is planned to be launched in 2025, the hot rolling shop in 2026, and the electric furnace melting shop in 2027.
The complex with modern equipment will meet the highest environmental protection requirements: the technological solutions used are designed to eliminate negative impacts on the environment in the region. The implementation of the project will create up to 2 500 jobs.
For Nornickel, participation in the new project is a consistent implementation of the strategy to expand nickel sales markets, as well as investments in the development of processing capacities in Russia. The country’s stainless steel flat products market is projected to grow steadily. In 2022, its consumption was about 340 thousand tons, the forecast for 2030 is more than 450 thousand tons.
