#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. In Krasnoyarsk, the results of the competition for the reconstruction of the Opera and Ballet Theater were summed up. Applications were submitted by more than 30 architects and companies from Russia and abroad.
There were seven contenders in the final. According to the selection results, the third place was taken by the Krasnoyarsk-Moscow consortium – the A2 design bureau and the MVP company. The architectural bureau Studio 44 from St. Petersburg got the second place, and the Moscow company Wauhouse became the winner.
“The finalists’ works pleasantly surprised by the variety of visual solutions. At the same time, the architects managed to maintain a reasonable approach in creating the concept – as planned, the building should become a multifunctional complex with a large number of opportunities for realizing the troupe’s creative potential”, said Arkady Zinov, the Krasnoyarsk region culture minister.
The winners will receive a cash prize of 1.5 million rubles, a cash reward of a million is provided for second place, and 500 000 for third.
The competition was supported by Nornickel and provided funding of 100 million rubles.
The building of the Opera and Ballet Theater named after Hvorostovsky was built in 1966-1978. Today it needs to have its facade and interiors updated, technological capabilities improved, and the halls reconstructed.
