#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. In September, Nornickel released into the Yenisey river another batch of valuable fish breeds – 325 thousand fry of the Siberian sturgeon went on the first voyage in the Prutovsky shallow water in the Yenisei district of the region.
“Maintaining biodiversity, replenishing the fry in the company presence territories and the responsible attitude to the environment is the Nornickel’s priority and its daily work. Since the beginning of the year, the company has produced about 700 thousand individuals of various breeds of valuable fish. In the future, we intend to increase these indicators”, commented Yury Semenov, the Nornickel Polar Division’s industrial ecology department’s head.
Of the 700 thousand fry released over the past season, about 400 thousand is the Red Book sturgeon, about 300 thousand is grayling and whitefish.
The program of artificial fish stocking is part of the company’s program to preserve biodiversity and is implemented in accordance with the requirements of Russian legislation and scientific recommendations.
Recall that in 2021 the mining and metallurgical company approved an environmental strategy that covers all the main areas of environmental influences: climate change, air, water, waste management, soil and biodiversity. According to the strategy, more than 440 billion rubles will be allocated for the environmental projects implementation by 2031.
