#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The main fish imports are Atlantic salmon and trout: they account for about 17 percent of supplies. Among other significant items: frozen shrimp, mackerel, frozen herring. Premium types of fish and seafood are also imported, for example, certain types of tuna, sea bass, lobsters, and cuttlefish.
Recall that the supply of red fish – Atlantic salmon and salmon from Europe and the United States, including fish from Norway and Iceland, decreased in 2014. In 2022, fish imports may also decline. RBC writes about a possible shortage based on data from the Association of pollock miners.
Russia will replace imported fish. The supply of shrimp, Atlantic herring and mackerel will be partially provided by the Russian enterprises that catch them.
Frozen fish can be replaced with domestic white fish fillets – pollock, cod and haddock. Difficulties can arise with Atlantic salmon and frozen tuna. Restaurateurs note that large species of Russian salmon are harvested only once a year and almost all of them are immediately exported to Asia.
It is necessary to work on import substitution and logistics so that domestic fish is available for fellow countrymen. It is possible to catch it or grow it: over the past five years, salmon production in Russia has almost tripled and reached 137 thousand tons in 2021.
Earlier, we reported that Taimyr char took root well in fish factories in the Leningrad region and in Krasnoyarsk. Recall that the fry hatched from eggs collected during expeditions to lake Sobachye in Taimyr and incubated at the Norilsk fish factory. More over, 30 enterprises in the Krasnoyarsk region are ready to open import-substituting production facilities.
