#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The Nornickel company presented four key projects in the field of information technology at the Russian IT forum Digital Industry of Industrial Russia – 2024 (DIIR). They were developed as part of the industrial competence centers (ICC) Metallurgy and Ecology.
Industrial competence centers
The company creates four industry solutions. Three of them in the Metallurgy ICC are the mining and geological information system, mining planning and dispatching of underground mining operations. Another one in the Ecology Center is the project Development of a System for Predictive Monitoring of Emissions. The projects highlight Nornickel’s readiness to offer solutions compatible not only with metallurgy, but also with other industries.
Over the past year, Nornickel has completed the development of prototypes. These products were created without interruption from production and business. One of the key solutions is predictive monitoring of emissions, which, in addition to metallurgy, can be implemented in such industries as oil and gas, gas and petrochemical, chemical and energy.
“I think that the idea of the ICC is generally very good and effective; it allows us to solve practical problems. In particular, the ICC, which deals with metallurgy problems, also achieves good results. And here the point is not only that we are already creating prototypes and implementing some solutions, but also that there is very good interaction between the members of the ICC. We use the developments made by Severstal and Metalloinvest, and they use ours. And this is very important, because the amount of work to replace imported systems is very large. We don’t have much time. And therefore, the key is the ability to organize interaction and exchange”, explained Nornickel’ president Vladimir Potanin in an interview with the Rossiya-24 television company.
Data mart
Nornickel also supports the new national program Data Economy, which will simplify interaction between the state and business.
“Together with the relevant ministries, and primarily with the Ministry of Digital Development and Rosstat, we came to the decision to create a single data mart. Accordingly, this is a very convenient form for business, but it seems to me that it is already beginning to get an intersectoral nature, and it is necessary to create a center of competence that would carry out this intersectoral coordination.
Because individually we have very good contacts with the Ministry of Digital Development, and with Rosstat, and with the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and with the Ministry of Energy, but the time for intersectoral coordination is coming, and it seems important to create such a center of competence”, emphasized Vladimir Potanin.
Affordable import substitution
The head of Nornickel noted that the source of import substitution for various systems and products is either products already available from Russian vendors, and companies successfully use them, or new products created within the framework of the ICC. And the results of this work should become more accessible to the market.
“We are now starting to transfer the fruits of this work into the hands of independent vendors, and subsequently we are thinking about creating a digital platform on which everyone – both vendors and users – can communicate and fairly share royalties, on the one hand, and on the other hand, formulate a request for what we still need. We would be able to see smaller vendors on this platform, which are currently not visible due to the fact that large customers and large contractors mainly dominate”, explained the head of Nornickel.
Benefits for development companies for product licensing
The Nornickel president also noted that many companies are now investing their own funds in developments, and it would be fair for them to receive deductions or benefits when licensing products at least for the amount of these investments.
“That is, those companies that are already investing in development should receive benefits from this type of payment. As far as I understand, the government hears this kind of initiative, and perhaps we will find support here”, explained Vladimir Potanin in an interview with the Rossiya-24 TV channel.
Nornickel continues to be one of the leaders in the field of industrial IT innovation, offering solutions that can be useful not only for metallurgy, but also for other key industries. Participation in DIIR-2024 once again emphasizes the company’s commitment to technology development and support of national programs in the IT field.
