#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. As in previous years, the main venue for the all-Russian open festival-competition of audiovisual arts will be the Rodina cinema complex.
This is one of the brand events of the Krasnoyarsk region (its founders are the Norilsk administration’s culture department and the Rodina cinema complex). Traditionally, Polar Owl is attended by the cinema world masters. This year, for example, on October 15, the Ekran animation studio (Norilsk youth center) will host a master class from the Smeshariki and Finnik creators, Denis Chernov and Tatyana Belova. Let us recall that Denis Chernov is a Russian director, screenwriter and voice actor, one of the creators and leading director of the sensational Smeshariki project, which has become a real cartoon trend on Russian television in the last 10 years; full-length animated film Finnik, which earned a record money for domestic animation in 2022. What modern animation today is, what the ways of its promotion are, what the creation secrets and cartoon production tricks are – the participants will learn at the master class in the process of working on animation techniques shown by the guest from St. Petersburg.

By the way, Denis Chernov together with Tatyana Belova (screenwriter and creative producer of the Riki group of companies, general director of her own animation company Chernovik) already attended a meeting with the Norilsk audience on October 13 at the final event of the animation course from the Creative Industries Academy of the Norilsk Development Agency (NDA).
Animators from St. Petersburg acted as the course curators and authors of the short animated film Non-flying Weather, dedicated to Norilsk (this is a joint project of the Chernovik company and NDA). The cartoon will be sent to animation art competitions and film festivals.
But let’s get back to Polar Owl. On Tuesday, the Rodina’s video hall will welcome guests to the cartoon lesson Yenisey Stories. This joint project of the publishing house of the Siberian Federal University and the Digital Humanities Association is a creative development of the previous project: a book for children The Cares and Fun of Little Yeniseians. It was the book that inspired the creative group to develop the theme of the Yenisey Siberia traditions in the animation genre.
“The video lesson is not only entertaining stories about the adventures of a boy who ended up in the past, but also an introduction to the Siberians’ traditions. After watching each of the four animated films, children will complete tasks, guess riddles, play, and participate in the reconstruction of their ancestors’ holidays using a special workbook and a mobile application”, they say at Rodina.
Let us add that the project partners are the DHlab laboratory and students of the information technologies in creative and cultural industries department of the SFU’s Humanitarian Institute, the Krasnoyarsk Regional Institute for Education Development, the regional state autonomous institution of culture Yenisey Kino, the municipal autonomous institution House of Cinema, the creative association Gera Group. Creative & Production.
On October 16, the festival series of master classes will continue with a meeting in the Ekran studio with Norilsk resident Nikolay Nadezhin, the head of the first comics and manga studio in the city.
The festival program will continue with a screening of the cartoon Koschei: The Bride Kidnapper on October 17, after which a meeting with the director, animator, and screenwriter Sergey Antonov will take place.
The festival program will end with a screening of the film Choice on October 18, as well as a meeting with Alexander Kalashnikov, the master and director of the Krasnoyarsk film studio, chairman of the Krasnoyarsk branch of the Russian Cinematographers Union.
Let us add that the selection of the best works in the field of audiovisual art from children and teenagers from all over Russia and neighboring countries becomes an obligatory part of the festival every year. This year, 438 works were sent to the competition.
