Norilsk theatre launched new VR project

September 26, 2024

The first day of filming has already passed.

#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The theater is preparing the second VR project after Hyperborea: Putorana Plateau. It will be called Be Smoktunovsky and is planned for release next year.

“In 2025, the chief director of the Norilsk Drama Anna Babanova plans to release the play To Be Smoktunovsky. According to her, the audience, together with the main character, will travel to Norilsk in the 1940s, walk around Moscow, where they will linger at the Moscow art theater and certainly at the Pushkin monument. They will fly to Alupka, where Kozintsev’s Hamlet was filmed, and will return to the capital again to the Moscow courtyard of the Valaam monastery, to which Smoktunovsky presented an icon of St. Nicholas”, the theater noted.

The play script was completed in the summer, an actor for the lead role and his partner were chosen, and a production team was formed. The project received direct support from the target capital fund Our Norilsk.

Each of the presented projects is interesting in its own way and is needed by Norilsk and its residents. Thus, the VR performance To Be Smoktunovsky, the genre Walking with a Genius, is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the people’s artist of the USSR Innokenty Smoktunovsky. This is an attempt to look at the world through the eyes of a famous actor who played on the stage of the Norilsk theater for about five years”, the theater noted.

And the first day of filming for the new project took place the other day. Let us recall that Smoktunovsky’s creative path began at the turn of the 1940s and 50s in Norilsk. Here, his stage name, Smoktunovsky, was first heard, and here his creative style was born and honed.

“Putting on virtual reality glasses, each viewer will walk with the genius through the streets of Norilsk, Moscow, through the theaters where he worked. Will try to look at the world around him through his eyes. Feel and understand… Here is the set of Hamlet, and the Prince of Denmark leaning over the skull of poor Yorick… Here he delivers the famous monologue To Be or Not to Be… Here he comes out on the stage of the Moscow art theater and sees the audience…”, they say in the Norilsk theatre.

Further filming will take place in Moscow and Alupka. The play premiere will take place in March next year.

Earlier, we wrote that previously unknown works of the famous composer Yakov Rassin were donated to Norilsk musical institutions.
