#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. Members of the Norilsk cold swimming team successfully performed at the X-WATERS swimming series competitions in Kaliningrad.
The open water swim took place on September 17 on Lake Sinyavinskoye. Another name for the lake is Yantarnoe: it was formed on the site of the Walter quarry, where amber was mined in 1913-1972.
Daredevils were offered three distances to choose from – 1, 3 and 5 kilometers. 180 athletes from different cities of the country gathered at the X-WATERS World Championship 2023 stage. Norilsk was represented by four swimmers: Fyodor Trukhin, Victoria Kirillova, Elena Turchina and Dmitry Mogilev.
Norilsk residents conquered Amber Lake, demonstrating their skills at a kilometer distance. Victoria Kirillova became first in her age category, Fyodor Trukhin and Elena Turchina took third place.
Norilsk residents received slots to participate in X-Waters Kaliningrad based on their performance at X-Waters plateau Putorana last year. In 2021 and 2022, the venue for cold swims in Taimyr was lake Lama. The first and only swimming camp on Lama won the Grand Prix of the prestigious award. X-WATERS Plateau Putorana was included in the best sports routes.
This year the competition was held on the Yenisey in Dudinka. Thanks to the change in location to a more accessible one, the swim became much more popular. X-WATERS Yenisey united about 80 daredevils from nine cities of the country.
