#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The annual international festival Archstoyaniye will take place from July 26 to 28 on the territory of the Nikola-Lenivets art park in the Kaluga region for the 19th time. In the entire history of the cult event, Norilsk will be represented in its program for the first time. An art object dedicated to the polar city will be presented by the team of the Norilsk Development Agency (NDA).

Archstoyaniye is the largest landscape art objects festival in Europe and Russia, a unique project that offers a new approach to the development of territories and presents the idea of interaction with the landscape through creative practices and contemporary art. The festival program includes the presentation of architectural objects, art projects, theater, music, lectures and much more. This year, the festival curators have concentrated the theme in the sonorous pronoun We and united six institutions from different parts of the country: Moscow, Samara, Tver, Yekaterinburg, Magnitogorsk, Chelyabinsk and Norilsk.
Answering the question “Who are we?” the NDA sociocultural projects team has developed a conceptual art object Labyrinth City, which personifies Norilsk – an ordinary city, which was built in an extraordinary place, where a wind blows between its houses, collecting the stories of Norilsk residents. The sound art accompanying guests of the northern art object will give the opportunity to feel like that same wandering gust of air and will tell five stories of northerners: about something personal, but familiar to every Norilsk resident.
“The Norilsk architects came up with the idea of building a labyrinth city. It is comfortable for both Norilsk residents and the wind, which is strong or very strong almost always here. We’ve learned to live with it. And we can’t even imagine that it could be the other way. The wind is like the city dweller, like us, like our neighbor. We invite guests to wander in the metaphorical Norilsk, to hear the wind’s voice and the stories of Norilsk residents brought by that wind”, said Karina Andreyeva, the art object’s idea and concept’s author, the NDA’s sociocultural and educational projects department head.
The event will take place on the territory of Europe’s largest art park, Nikola-Lenivets, where more than 40 landscape installations are exhibited all year round, many of which have become iconic for modern culture. You can visit Archstoyaniye to see the Norilsk art object and more from July 26 to 28. The labyrinth is open around the clock all days of the festival. Read more about the program on the website.
The project was implemented by the Norilsk Development Agency with the support of the Nornickel company.
