#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. More than 30 works were included in the Anthology of Plays by Modern Norilsk Playwrights. The presentation and first reading took place last weekend.
In 2022, the project of the traveling theater Ko.Les.O became the winner of the Nornickel company’s World of New Opportunities social project competition. Participants in the modern drama laboratory wrote more than 50 plays, 32 of which were included in the collection, compiled by the director of the Polar Drama Theater Timur Fairuzov and the playwright and artist Evgeny Stashkov.

“The theater project won in the Revival Pole category. The mobile theater Ko.Les.O collected interesting ways to interact with citizens, and thus the first collection of plays and a community of contemporary playwrights was born”, says Tatyana Dyakova, a specialist in the Nornickel’s Polar Branch’s charity and corporate community development department’s charity department. “Part of the team was the non-profit organization Stairs, which has repeatedly won the competition for social projects World of New Opportunities. For example, thanks to their efforts, the inclusive musical White Noise appeared and became popular among Norilsk residents. Perhaps some of the plays included in the collection will become the basis for a theatrical production, and now we are discovering new authors”.
The collection includes plays that Norilsk residents have already seen once. Thus, five texts were used in the performative play Windows, which the townspeople saw in early February during an impromptu meeting of the sun.
“On the one hand, the collection is the result of our work on its creation and implementation of the grant, and on the other, work in the field of modern drama continues and will not be limited to one collection. When choosing plays, we relied on our taste and experience in theater work. They should be interesting, carry some kind of theme and idea. The collection contains classical works and theatrical texts, which are either rhymed or not, but all of them are related to the theater.
The goal of the project is to push Norilsk playwrights and force them to take the first step in this field. Everything starts small. It was important to create a community of people who are interested in dramaturgy”.
