Norilsk photographers can help scientists learn more about Arctic birds

December 26, 2022

Northerners are invited to join a research project on bird wintering in Russia.

#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The Bird Conservation Union invites the country’s photographers to take part in the large-scale research project Russian Winter 2022/23. The pictures will help scientists learn more about the birds wintering in our country and save them.

You can join the project until February 28 on the iNaturalist.org platform. After registration, you can upload photos of any birds there, except for domestic birds: if the photo is clear and high-quality enough, the experts will determine the breed themselves.

Recall that in Norilsk in the last two years, birdwatching has begun to gain popularity – observation and photography of birds.

Earlier, scientists from the Russian Arctic noticed swallows in the Arctic – birds that are not typical for the region. Last year, on the peninsula, an ornithologist from the Taimyr Nature Reserves directorate photographed one of the rarest and most beautiful birds in Russia, the Baikal teal.
