#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. In Norilsk, renovation of the historical building of the Norilsk museum on Leninsky prospect, 14, has begun. The adjacent square will also be renovated.
Previously, specialists conducted research, assessed the condition of all structures, developed and agreed on a preliminary design – solutions that will make it possible to restore the original appearance of the building as much as possible.
The museum building is part of the Krasnoyarsk region’s cultural heritage site. Originally there was a cinema in the building. It began to be built in 1954, but construction was interrupted and resumed only in 1959.
The opening took place in April 1960. Then the 90th anniversary of Lenin’s birth was widely celebrated in the USSR, and the first wide-screen cinema in Norilsk was named after the revolution leader. The cinema has been in demand for almost 40 years. In 1999, it was closed for reconstruction – it was decided to place the city museum in the building which opened there a year later, in 2000.
The museum facades with all their elements, as well as the roof, porches, windows, and entrance doors will be completely renewed. A removable, collapsible ramp for people with limited mobility will be installed along one of the facades.
“The museum square will be made more beautiful and modern. Workers will re-lay emergency brick barriers on the sides along Leninsky prospect and install two prefabricated modules with LED compositions for temporary exhibitions on the street side. The park will feature continuous benches and decking, integrated into the lawn fencing, with built-in concrete bins. Measures are being taken to preserve the existing landscaping”, the Norilsk museum workers explained.
The project is designed for two stages, all repair and restoration work is planned to be completed by November 1, 2025.
