#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The mobile environmental laboratory in Norilsk has expanded the scope of accreditation and will be able to participate in supervisory activities together with inspectors from the Ministry of Ecology of the Krasnoyarsk region – to take air samples at the Norilsk Industrial Region facilities.
Previously, the vehicle could only monitor the current environmental situation. The laboratory is equipped with modern equipment.
“Measurements will be carried out on 20 indicators, including 15 pollutants, such as carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxide and dioxide, sulfur dioxide, hydrogen sulfide, ammonia, suspended particles (up to 2.5 micrometers), benzene, o-xylene, styrene, toluene, phenol, chlorobenzene, ethylbenzene, a mixture of m-, p-xylenes. And also, on five meteorological parameters, such as temperature, atmospheric pressure, humidity, wind direction and speed”, the regional government said.
The environmental laboratory was created on the KamAZ basis – it withstands extremely low temperatures and is designed for uninterrupted operation in the Far North conditions. The car can travel long distances, overcome snow drifts.
Acting Minister of Ecology and Rational Nature Management of the Krasnoyarsk region Pavel Borzyh noted that the nearest plans include the creation of a stationary laboratory in the North:
“It will expand the list of indicators and allow to analyze samples not only of atmospheric air, but also of water bodies, soil on the spot, without taking them to the mainland, which will significantly increase the work efficiency”.
