#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. At Nornickel’s annual question-and-answer session, senior vice president, head of the Norilsk division Nikolay Utkin said that in 2021 the Polar branch faced difficulties: an accident at the Norilsk concentrator, flooding of mines.
“For us, those were great challenges, lessons that led to great rethinking of the company’s management”, said Nikolay Utkin. “Given the rapid recovery of mines and the Norilsk enrichment plant, the overfulfillment of the production program in the second half of 2021 made it possible to compensate for the backlog in the first one in terms of all production indicators. This is the merit of the team, which made super efforts”.
He also emphasized that the Norilsk division continues to implement all the planned projects:
“Although there are risks and concerns, we are not deviating from our plans. We have provided for the development of mines, which will allow us to gradually increase production volumes from 19 to more than 30 million tons per year by 2030. Also, we are already building the 3rd start-up complex at the Talnah processing plant with an increase in processing capacity to 18 million tons of ore per year. And we’ve made a decision to build a new Norilsk enrichment plant, which will also increase annual processing up to 18 million tons”.
As Nikolay Utkin noted, the division has the funds and people to implement the plans.
