#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The first three volumes of the History of Russia in 20 Volumes have already been printed – they reflect the historical processes that took place throughout the modern territory of Russia and adjacent lands, including Taimyr. The Nauka publishing house deputy director Mikhail Fomin reported this at the traditional round table Arctic Book.
“We can say that the entire sum of modern historical knowledge about Taimyr and other regions of the country is reflected in the volumes of the History of Russia that have been published and are being prepared for publication”, the speaker explained.
Mikhail Fomin emphasized that Taimyr has been inhabited by people since ancient times, as shown by the results of archaeological expeditions throughout the peninsula. Russian merchants and settlers appeared here no later than the 16th century, and long before them, communities of fishermen, hunters and livestock breeders roamed or settled.
“The first volumes of the History of Russia have begun to be published, and we immediately see the risk that it will first be distributed within the Moscow Garden Ring”, said Andrey Ivanov, a participant in the round table, a member of the Polar Explorers Association, Russian writer and publicist. “That is why we need to immediately talk about quotas for the twenty-volume edition for educational institutions and libraries in the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation. Norilsk and Taimyr have a well-developed library network, there is a college and a university. Obviously, it is necessary to send requests to the region to find out the required quantity and help arrange a pre-order or subscription”.
State Duma expert Oksana Tolstyh supported the idea of creating a quota for seven regions of the Russian Arctic so that the twenty-volume edition can be found in educational institutions and libraries in the Arctic.
