#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. Literary heroes and their creators appeared in the paintings and sculptures of Russian artists and began to speak. At the new exhibition, Norilsk residents will see poets and writers’ portraits, illustrations for their works, as well as landscapes and interiors of the places where they lived and created their works.
The Literary Images Gallery brought together more than 80 works made in various artistic techniques: illustrations for books, frescoes, tapestries, paintings, ancient Russian miniatures, and so on. The presented creations immerse you in the atmosphere of a particular work, conveying the author’s mood and emotions. Along with classics and serious works, illustrations for children’s books are also presented: folk tales and ABCs.
As book printing developed, the history of book illustration was created. The artists’ drawings visualized the mood created by the writer and, to some extent, conveyed their vision of the plot.
The new exhibition was timed to coincide with the literary anniversaries of 2024 – round dates since the birth of Alexander Pushkin (225 years), Nikolay Gogol (215 years), Mikhail Lermontov (210 years), Victor Astafiev (100 years).
The exhibition was not limited only to celebratory writers – it included portraits of Anton Chehov, Anna Ahmatova, Mikhail Bulgakov, Rasul Gamzatov, sculptural images of Lev Tolstoy, Sergey Yesenin, illustrations for literary works of Alexander Radishchev, Denis Fonvizin, Nikolay Ostrovsky, Mikhail Saltykov-Shchedrin, Nikolay Nekrasov, Vladimir Mayakovsky, Nikolay Nosov, Pavel Bazhov.
The new exhibition will be open until June 30.
