#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. Last Sunday, the School of Local History students attended a lecture in the Geopark.
Experienced and novice local historians met with the Karpinsky research institute’s Norilsk branch, the famous Geological committee of Russia’s heads Fyodor Lazarev and Oleg Voytovich.
The meeting took place near the Church of the Holy Great Martyr Barbara, and then the walk continued through the recently opened Geopark.
Despite the bad weather, more than 40 northerners, actively interested in the history of the northern land, attended the lecture in the pouring autumn rain.
Fyodor Lazarev and Oleg Voytovich, spoke about the deposits and Norilsk ores, their features and uniqueness.
The lecture captivated and interested the Norilsk residents, and they expressed a desire to meet with the geologists again, listen again to the story about the Far North deposits and discuss in detail what the main wealth of the Big Norilsk subsoil is.
“Until the last minute, we fought the desire to cancel this event because of the rain, but we decided not to, seeing how many listeners came to get acquainted with the geology of our subsoil, despite the weather. About 40 people! Moreover, meeting with the speakers is a great success for the participants of the School of Local History. Therefore, the lecture took place. Thanks to the geologists!” said Stanislav Stryuchkov, chairman of the Taimyr researchers’ club and head of the School of Local History project.
We remind you that the School of Local History project is being implemented with the support of the presidential grants fund. This is one of the few projects being implemented in the territory that has received a grant from the Russian Federation president for the development of civil society for the sixth time.
