#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The Federal Agency for Maritime and River Transport (Rosmorrechflot) and Rosatom are agreeing to create hubs on the Yenisey, Ob, Irtysh and Lena rivers for their fuller use in cargo transportation. In future hubs, it is planned to accumulate cargo for further shipment through the Northern Sea Route, reports Flagman news agency.
“Russian president Putin emphasized that the development of passenger and cargo shipping is a very important area of activity. The Rosmorrechflot’s work is of particular importance here. The waterways’ efficiency and safety depend on the agency’s work, which directly affects the connectivity of Russian territories, their economic growth, and also contributes to the strengthening of international cooperation”, noted Mikhail Mishustin at a meeting with the Rosmorrechflot head Andrey Tarasenko.
Andrey Tarasenko noted that the creation of hubs is the agency’s priority task.
“Today, for example, the very good, large rivers – the Ob, Irtysh, Lena, Yenisey – are not fully used. Freight turnover on the rivers is falling because there are no hubs and no stevedores who would organize and accumulate cargo and provide a cargo base. Many companies have received licenses, they have deposits, but they do not have or have not yet built logistics. Therefore, Rosatom and I are agreeing to create certain hubs on Arctic and northern rivers that will accumulate cargo and go to the Northern Sea Route”, he emphasized.
