#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. In Krasnoyarsk, the capital of the region, to which Norilsk belongs, the underground construction project will be completed, despite its economic inexpediency. This was announced by deputy prime minister of Russia Marat Husnullin.
“If 20 thousand or more passengers do not travel per hour, it is not economically profitable to build a subway, it is very expensive. In Moscow, the metro is profitable, because there are stations that carry 58 thousand passengers at rush hour, in St. Petersburg it is also profitable. And in other cities – it is inexpedient. However, we have started the project, and it has to be completed”, Husnullin said.
According to him, subways construction will also be completed in Nizhny Novgorod and Chelyabinsk.
The Krasnoyarsk subway has been being built since 1995. From time to time, construction was suspended due to funding problems, and in 2013 it was finally mothballed. In 2019, the regional authorities again thought about the need to create a metro in Krasnoyarsk, and later published the sketches. The preliminary cost of the project is estimated at 120 billion rubles. The first line construction is planned to be completed in 2026.
