#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The Nadezhdinsky metallurgical plant (NMP) is preparing for the largest-scale renovation – the modernization of the second production line begins on May 20.
The flash smelting technology itself will remain unchanged, but the furnace will be completely replaced with a new one. This will improve both qualitative and quantitative indicators.
“As part of the repair, we will completely modernize the furnace loading, install a new charge atomizer, which will increase the smelter’s productivity to 260 tons per hour for batch processing. Its geometric dimensions will change, since our technical specifications include a reduction in the sulfur content in the concentrate supplied to the smelting, which reduces the energy intensity of the process. Gas-dynamic and thermal calculations were carried out – based on them, we changed the configuration of the furnace, increased the height of the reaction shaft, and increased the height of the furnace sump”, said Vitaly Muravyov, the NMP’s director.
The speaker noted that all these technical solutions will help avoid dust formation and the subsequent formation of refractory deposits in the furnace adapter and in the waste heat boiler.
Now the plant’s capacity is 2 million 600 thousand tons for processing nickel concentrate. After modernization, the enterprise’s productivity can reach 2 million 800 thousand tons.
“This is a significant renovation both within the Nadezhda metallurgical plant and within the Nornickel’s Polar Division. In fact, we will get a completely new melting unit. We completely dismantle the old furnace and build a new one. We are increasing the reliability of our industrial assets. In addition to the furnace, we carry out major overhauls of peripheral equipment – this includes the drying section, we are completely replacing the unifying smelting furnace No. 3, and this is the granulation basin. This is a large repair that involves the equipment of the second production line. As a result, we will receive a completely new melting unit, repair facilities, increase production reliability and, as a result, increase the productivity of the Nadezhdinsky plant, the Polar Division and the company as a whole”, explained Vitaly Muravyov.
1600 people will be involved in work during peak loads – these are employees of Norilsknickelremont and contractors.
A wide range of equipment will be used, ranging from mobile inverters to unique orbital welding machines.
The entire repair, including peripheral equipment, will take 60 days and cost 30 billion rubles, and all production capacity at this time will fall on the first production line.
Let us remind you that the first line of the Sulfur Program at NMP has been operating for more than six months. Its effectiveness is 99.6 percent.
