February 03, 2023

Northerners will be able to fly directly to warmer climes, and it will become more convenient for foreigners to get acquainted with the Russian Arctic.

#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The new status of the Norilsk air harbor will contribute to the development of tourism on the Taimyr peninsula.

Maxim Mironov, the Norilsk Development Agency head, emphasized that the international status of the airport will expand the possibilities of Norilsk and give an additional impetus to the development of the territory:

“Under the current geopolitical conditions, it will be possible to more quickly solve the tasks of delivering various cargoes, including materials necessary for the large-scale renovation of the city that has begun. New mutually beneficial partnerships will emerge. Representatives of not only large companies, but also medium or small businesses will be able to work directly with colleagues from friendly countries”.

Recall that Norilsk Airport (Alykel), the only year-round transport corridor for communication with the mainland, is waiting for a major reconstruction, it will start in April 2023.

Nornickel approached the authorities with the initiative to give the airport an international status. The decision was taken as soon as possible.
