#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. In honor of the International Day of the World’s Indigenous People, the Snob internet resource and the Nornickel company launched the second part of the At the End of the World project. It was dedicated to the five Taimyr ethnic groups: Dolgans, Nenets, Nganasans, Evenks and Enets. Where they came from, what languages they spoke, how they survived in the Arctic conditions, what they believed in, what spirits they prayed to, what fairy tales they told children – and what their lives are now filled with.
In support of the project, director Savva Savelyev, nominated for the Golden Mask award, staged the Taimyr Tales play with the participation of famous actors and indigenous people of the peninsula.
Native Nganasan Alexey Chunachar, singer Gurude, actors Ingeborga Dapkunaite and Semyon Treskunov will read five tales specially selected for the project.
The performance will be complemented by a media library of songs, dances, stories and paintings by Taimyr artists. The sounds of the jew’s harp in the production are intertwined with European classics performed by composer Daniil Orlov. Experts from the Museum of Norilsk and the Taimyr House of Folk Art helped to collect and verify all the materials.
The live broadcast of the performance can be viewed on August 9 at Snob and the official YouTube channel of Nornickel.
