#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. North-Eastern Federal University (NEFU) proposed preserving the linguistic and cultural heritage of the indigenous peoples of the Arctic using digital technologies.
At the XIII international forum The Arctic: Present and Future, proposals voiced by the university delegation can be sent to the State Commission for the Arctic Development, as well as the relevant legislative and executive authorities.
Head of the NEFU UNESCO Department Anatoly Zhozhikov made presentations on the Arctic Council project The Arctic Indigenous Peoples’ Linguistic and Cultural Heritage Digitalization. He noted that digitalization has proven to be an indispensable assistant in the matter of preserving history and traditions.
“The process of digitalization has become one of the ways to preserve cultural heritage, thanks to which everything can be recorded and documented. I proposed to integrate all disparate and large projects for the preservation and development of linguistic and cultural heritage around the Arctic Council project The Arctic Indigenous Peoples’ Linguistic and Cultural Heritage Digitalization, using the GIS map platform of languages and cultural heritage”, said Anatoly Zhozhikov.
The NEFU project on the Arctic indigenous peoples’ heritage digitalization is being implemented within the Priority 2030 program of the national project Science and Universities. This is a multicultural Internet portal that contains 3D models of cultural and historical objects, a unified online knowledge base, and a GIS map of indigenous languages. Work on it is still ongoing, but according to plans, experts will reach the final stage in 2024.
