#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The North Pole ice-resistant platform has once again set off for the Arctic from the port of St. Petersburg, Interfax reports.
“The research expedition vessel has set out for Murmansk, where the North Pole-42 drifting polar expedition will start”, the press service of the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute (AARI) reported.
AARI scientists intend to conduct dozens of scientific studies to study climate change, plot routes along the Northern Sea Route, and ensure hydrometeorological safety in Russia.
“The capabilities of the ice-resistant platform allow us to use the most modern equipment in our work, immerse devices to any depth in the Arctic ocean, study near space, and use satellites and unmanned vehicles. The data transmitted from the vessel is very important for both fundamental and applied tasks that are strategically important for the state”, said AARI director Alexander Makarov.
Earlier, with the support of the North Pole icebreaker, the North Pole-41 expedition was successfully completed. It began in October 2022 and lasted until May 2024.
It should be noted that the ice-resistant vessel is designed for year-round comprehensive scientific research in the high latitudes of the Arctic ocean and is designed for operation for 30-35 years, taking into account average repairs.
This Is Taimyr has already reported that Russian and Chinese scientists will conduct research in the Arctic.
