#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. Scientists from leading Russian and Chinese polar organizations have agreed to conduct joint research in the Arctic.
“Scientists from the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute (AARI), the China Arctic and Antarctic Administration and the Polar Research Institute of China have agreed to begin preparing joint research projects in the Arctic zone. The first consultation meetings will begin this autumn”, the of the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute’s press service reported.
The Chinese colleagues were invited to join the Russian Arctic scientific expedition on the Spitsbergen archipelago and the North Pole drifting expeditions, and they, in turn, invited Russian scientists to the expedition on the Chinese research icebreaker Xuelong 2.
“We have common interests and ways to develop further cooperation. We should develop a system by which Russian and Chinese scientists will be able to visit scientific stations in our countries. Polar regions are a huge cluster for interdisciplinary research and solving common problems in science”, the press service quoted Mr. Lin Taiyun, deputy director of the China Arctic and Antarctic Administration, as saying.
It is noted that Chinese and Russian scientists are already successfully interacting in Antarctica, and today there is a pressing need to expand this cooperation at the North Pole.
