#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. In Norilsk, on January 20, the city ethnic festival The Sun is in Each of Us will take place – the event is dedicated to the meeting of the Sun after a long polar night.
A concert program will be unfolded on the street with the participation of creative groups from Dudinka and Norilsk. The special honored guest and the key participant will be the song and dance ensemble of the peoples of the North Heiro. This year the honored folk art collective of the Russian Federation celebrates its 55th anniversary.
“The sun – a huge red deer, having climbed into the blue expanse of the sky, pulls, like a sleigh, a shining day – the day of the people’s life continuation!” – the holiday program is based on the wisdom of the Taimyr indigenous people and their age-old traditions.
The five indigenous Taimyr ethnic groups – Dolgans, Nenets, Nganasans, Evenks and Enets – tents’ mistresses will tell Norilsk residents about the traditions of meeting the Sun in Taimyr and will conduct the ancient ritual of feeding the fire. The artists will perform the ritual dance of the Red Deer flying towards the Sun. The street part of the holiday will end with a large round dance to continue life in Norilsk with the appearance of sunlight, accompanied by the most famous, recognizable and beloved music of the audience, Heiro. All the holiday guests, without exception, will take part in this spectacular event that unites peoples.
The Legend of the Sun play will take place in the museum building. The production of the Dudinka Folk Chamber Theater organically weaves oral folklore, dances and melodies of the peoples of the North into a single narrative: in order to save Taimyr from a black blizzard, eternal cold and end the confrontation between two proud and stubborn shamans, the deer Tuztah, the polar owl Serne, the partridge Lydako and Tuunbaka bear.
The performance involves theater actors, artists from the Heiro ensemble and the Extreme dance group. The audience will also take part in the interactive fragment of the performance.
Last year, Norilsk residents celebrated the Sun with a mini-festival. Creative residents of the northern city presented an installation in Moscow on the theme of waiting for the Sun.
